WEB Henry Louis Stram (ˈstræm) was born on January 3, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois. He embarked on his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Miami in 1959. In 1960, Lamar Hunt hired Stram as the first head coach of the Dallas Texans, now known as the Kansas City Chiefs.

Super Bowl Success and Innovative Coaching

Stram is renowned for his 15-season tenure with the Chiefs, leading them to their first Super Bowl appearance in 1967. He coached the team to victory in Super Bowl IV, setting a foundation for the franchise's future success. Stram was known for his innovative coaching techniques, including the "moving pocket" offense, which gave quarterbacks more time to throw the ball.

Role in Integration of Professional Football

WEB Hank Stram also played a significant role in the integration of professional football. As head coach of the Chiefs, he actively recruited and promoted African American players, challenging the prevailing norms of the time. His efforts helped pave the way for greater diversity in the NFL and beyond.
